# Vimeo source

**Location:** Post editor on enabled video post types (Movies, Short Videos, Episodes, Live Streams)

The **Vimeo source** metabox connects individual posts to Vimeo. Publishing remains the standard WordPress **Publish** / **Update** control — MediaBlaster never blocks save from this panel.

## Source states

### No source

When neither a Vimeo URL nor a Media URL is set:

1. Paste a Vimeo URL and choose **Load video data**
2. Or open **Upload a video to Vimeo** (when uploads are enabled)
3. Or choose **Use hosted video URL** to open **Advanced playback settings** / **Hosted video source** in Media details

### Vimeo video connected

When a Vimeo URL is stored, the panel shows a compact summary (duration, quality, playback status) with a Ready / Needs attention badge.

- **Refresh data** — reloads playback fields from the current Vimeo URL (accessible name: Refresh Vimeo video data)
- **Change source** — reveals the Vimeo URL field so you can paste a new link and load it; if the new import fails, the previous Vimeo URL and playback fields are restored
- **View on Vimeo** — tertiary text link that opens the linked URL in a new tab when it is a safe HTTP(S) address

Playback status:

- **Ready** — Media URL is populated
- **Needs attention** — Vimeo is linked but playback URL is still empty

### Hosted video source

When a Media URL exists without a Vimeo URL, the panel reports a hosted source. Use **Edit playback settings** to open Advanced playback / Hosted fields, or **Connect a Vimeo video** to attach Vimeo.

### Replace Vimeo video

When uploads are enabled, a bordered disclosure **Replace Vimeo video** sits under the connected summary. The entire summary row is clickable and expands to the compact dropzone. Supporting copy explains that upload connects a new file to this post (a new Vimeo asset is created; the original is not overwritten). Progress appears only after an upload starts. The action button reads **Upload replacement to Vimeo** when a Vimeo source is linked.

### Uploading or processing

While a file upload runs, conflicting actions are disabled and progress is shown. After the browser upload finishes, status shows **Processing on Vimeo** while polling continues. Existing create / upload / complete / poll AJAX behavior is unchanged.

## Canonical playback fields

**Media URL** (`rovidx_smarttv_URL`) and **Video Format** (`rovidx_smarttv_format`) are always registered on video post types. With Vimeo enabled they appear inside **Advanced playback settings** in Media details. Connected hosts normally fill them; use **Use hosted video URL** to open and edit.

## Media readiness

On Movies, the sidebar **Media readiness** checklist is advisory only. It summarizes playback URL, duration, quality, artwork, genres, and parental rating. It does **not** prevent publishing. Readiness always checks the canonical Media URL.

## Prerequisites

- **Enable Vimeo Integration** on [Features](general-settings.md)
- [Vimeo Connection](integrations-vimeo-oauth.md) completed
- Optional [import preferences](vimeo-settings.md) for title/description
- Uploads require **Allow uploads to Vimeo** and a connected account

## Bulk alternative

For many videos, use [Import from Vimeo](vimeo-mass-import.md) instead of per-post loading.
