Themes may then choose among these different versions when displaying the an image in a post. Thumbnails do also exist for featured images, and themes may registerd their own alternative image sizes. For example, WordPress' default theme TwentyFourteen defines a thumbnail size called "twentyfourteen-full-width" whose dimensions are 1038x576. **Update with version 1.3.** With this version, NelioEFI now uses a transparent Placeholder. The Placeholder is automatically set as the featured images of any posts that use an external featured image. Then, using JavaScript, NelioEFI detects which images are using the Placeholder and adds a CSS property for displaying the actual featured image (as a background property of the image placeholder). = Some (or all) posts do not show the featured image, even though it seems to be there. How can I fix it? = Some themes do not insert the featured image using an `img` tag, but they use other tags (such as a `div`) and use CSS properties for specifying the URL of the image. In order to overcome this issue, NelioEFI offers a filter that lets you specify the elements that might define the featured image in a CSS rule. Let's assume that featured images might appear in `div` or `a` elements. Featured images are now properly loaded, even when they are not loaded using the loop. * **Improvement.** Featured images are also visible when additional content is loaded using AJAX. = 1.3.1 = * **Bug fix.** The placeholder now includes some metainformation that was missing (width, height, and so on). This way, the image is no longer 1x1px in some themes. * **Improvement.** A solution for overwriding featured images that are inserted by means of a background-image has been implemented. The background image inserted by the theme (which is the transparent placeholder) is now replaced by the actual featured image using JavaScript. In order to do so, we look for a set of elements that can be filtered using the filter `nelioefi_background_elements`. * **Improvement.** Sometimes, when you define a external featured image, things go wrong and the theme is unable to load the featured image properly. When that happens, a default image is loaded. This image can be overwritten using the filter `nelioefi_default_placeholder`, which returns the URL of the new image. = 1.3.0 = * NelioEFI is now **compatible with virtually all themes**. In order to do that, we use a transparent Placeholder that is set as the featured image of all the posts that use an external featured image. Then, using JavaScript, the actual featured image is set as the background of the transparent placeholder. * Because of the new approach, we can no longer define custom ALT text. Future version might fix this issue. In the meantime, though, we remove the support for this field. = 1.2.0 = * Bug fix: Quick Edit (and possibly other edits) a post removed the external featured image.
