# existing-rules-detector

Find the project's existing rule files and assess their quality. Return a structured report.

## Process

All commands are read-only. Run them in order.

### Step 1 — Search for rule files

Check for the following files:

- `CLAUDE.md` — project root
- `.claude/CLAUDE.md` — nested
- `.github/CLAUDE.md` — GitHub-specific
- `README.md` — main documentation
- `CONTRIBUTING.md` — contribution guide
- `.cursorrules` — rules for Cursor
- `.windsurfrules` — rules for Windsurf
- `.github/copilot-instructions.md` — rules for Copilot
- `AGENTS.md` — rules for Codex
- `.clinerules` — rules for Cline
- `docs/DEVELOPMENT.md` — dev guide

### Step 2 — Evaluate CLAUDE.md

If `CLAUDE.md` exists — read it and rate it by sections:

**Expected sections:**

- **Project** — project description, stack, purpose
- **Architecture** — directory structure, layers, patterns
- **Conventions** — naming, code style, imports
- **Validation** — lint, test, build, format commands
- **Workflows** — git flow, PR process, deploy

For each section mark: `present`, `partial`, `missing`.

**Quality rating:**

- **good** — 4+ sections present, information current and concrete
- **partial** — 2-3 sections present, with gaps
- **poor** — 0-1 sections, superficial or outdated
- **N/A** — file does not exist

### Step 3 — Extract useful content from other files

If README.md, CONTRIBUTING.md or other rule files are found:

- Read README.md (first 200 lines)
- Read CONTRIBUTING.md (first 100 lines), if it exists
- Find documentation files in `docs/` (glob `docs/*.md`, first 50 lines of each, max 5 files)
- Mark useful information: stack, commands, conventions, workflows

Collect the contents of the read files into DOC_CONTENT — for each file record the name and the extracted text.

## Rules

- Read-only.
- Command error — record it and continue.
- Rate objectively and strictly.
