# Todo App - Task Breakdown

## Project Overview

A simple todo application with user authentication, task management, and cloud sync.

### Goals
- Enable users to create, update, and delete tasks
- Provide secure user authentication
- Sync tasks across devices via cloud storage
- Support task categories and due dates

## Phase Details

### Phase 1: Foundation
**Entry Criteria:** Clean project directory
**Exit Criteria:** Project builds, database connected, types defined

Tasks:
- `phase1-task1`: Initialize Next.js 14 project with TypeScript
- `phase1-task2`: Set up PostgreSQL database with Prisma
- `phase1-task3`: Define core data models (User, Task, Category)
- `phase1-task4`: Create base API route structure

### Phase 2: Authentication
**Entry Criteria:** Phase 1 complete
**Exit Criteria:** Users can register, login, logout

Tasks:
- `phase2-task1`: Implement user registration endpoint
- `phase2-task2`: Implement login/logout with JWT
- `phase2-task3`: Add protected route middleware

### Phase 3: Task Management
**Entry Criteria:** Phase 2 complete (auth working)
**Exit Criteria:** Full CRUD for tasks with categories

Tasks:
- `phase3-task1`: Create task CRUD API endpoints
- `phase3-task2`: Build task list UI component
- `phase3-task3`: Implement category filtering
- `phase3-task4`: Add due date picker and notifications

### Phase 4: Cloud Sync
**Entry Criteria:** Phase 3 complete (tasks working locally)
**Exit Criteria:** Tasks sync in real-time across devices

Tasks:
- `phase4-task1`: Set up WebSocket connection
- `phase4-task2`: Implement optimistic updates
- `phase4-task3`: Handle sync conflicts
