Substitute hyphenation patterns.
A TeX format file may include alternative hyphenation patterns
for a language with a different name. If the naming convention
follows babel’s rules, then the
hyphenation patterns
for a language can be replaced by the alternative hyphenation patterns,
provided in the format file.
