This repository ships two different things, licensed differently. The code — the TypeScript source, compiled output, type definitions, scoring engine, validation, localization logic, and JSON Schema, everything that makes psytools run — is licensed under the MIT License below. Copyright (c) 2026 Samed Kahyaoglu. The bundled instrument text — the titles, descriptions, instructions, item wording, and answer-option labels of the twenty-seven third-party psychological assessment instruments psytools ships, in every language psytools provides them — is licensed by each instrument's own rights holder, on the terms recorded instrument by instrument in SOURCES.md. SOURCES.md, not the MIT License below, is where your rights over any specific instrument's text come from. Most bundled instruments are free to use, including in commercial products, though a few carry a lighter condition of their own — mandatory attribution, most notably. Five need their rights holder's permission before commercial use: the ECR-R, the ERQ, and the HSPS, which SOURCES.md tags "Research only," and the SWLS and the Flourishing Scale, which SOURCES.md tags "Free with conditions" but whose own terms are non-commercial-only — the same restriction in substance, under a different tag. One more, the EAT-26, is free for individual use but requires a licensing agreement from its copyright holder for commercial web platforms that charge user fees. Four others — the AQ-10, the RSES, the CSI-16, and the UCLA Loneliness Scale — are neither free nor restricted for commercial use: their rights holders simply haven't addressed it, so confirm with them before shipping commercially. Read SOURCES.md before you rely on any instrument's text, particularly before commercial use. The MIT License below is the license for the code. The bundled instrument text is licensed as described above, not under this MIT grant. Rights over the bundled instrument text come from that text's own rights holder, per SOURCES.md.
