## `npm`

**Matches:** `npmjs.com/package/:name`, `www.npmjs.com/package/:name[/v/:version]`, `npmx.dev/package/:name[/v/:version]`

### Notes

- All three use upstream registry APIs (`registry.npmjs.org`, `pypi.org/pypi/.../json`, `crates.io/api/v1/crates/...`)
- No HTML scraping — fast and reliable
- npm supports scoped packages (`@scope/name`) and specific version queries

If you're tempted to reach for:
- `curl -s https://registry.npmjs.org/:name | jq ...` (npm)
- `npm view :name version --json 2>/dev/null` (npm, needs Node installed)
- `curl -s https://pypi.org/pypi/:name/json | jq ...` (PyPI)
- `pip show :name --json 2>/dev/null` (PyPI, needs Python)
- `curl -s https://crates.io/api/v1/crates/:name | jq ...` (crates.io)

**Stop.** This vertical hits all three registry APIs internally and returns structured name/version/license/homepage in one call. No curl, no jq, no language runtime needed.

## Browser fallback

Default to this vertical's API path; it is faster and more reliable than browser rendering. Use `mode=browser` only as an explicit fallback when the normal API path is blocked/rate-limited or when you need a logged-in CloakBrowser session (`sessionId` + `saveSession=true`).
