# Understand Tool Result Size Limits

Use this guide to recognize a bounded Tool result, read the available detail,
and return safely to the same Session without repeating the Tool action.
Oysterun keeps Tool results bounded so a very large result cannot make Session
chat unresponsive. Full Tool result content over 2 MiB (2,097,152 bytes) is intentionally not
displayed. A bounded preview or size-limit notice may remain visible. This is
the supported product limit, not a missing continuation bug.

Oysterun does not promise an inline full-result continuation or download for
Tool result content over that limit. A provider-local file path is not a public
content route and is not a step the user is expected to follow.

## Before You Start

Start from a Session chat that visibly contains the Tool result row you want to
inspect. Wait until the row has a settled result or error state, and do not
repeat the original request merely to obtain a larger display.

## Open A Tool Result

Start from the visible Tool result row in Session chat. Open its visible detail
control when one is available.

Expected result:

- content within the supported display limit may appear in the Tool detail;
- full content over 2 MiB is not displayed, although a bounded preview or
  size-limit notice may appear; and
- the Session remains usable after the bounded result is handled.

Do not use raw Matrix events, Host storage, provider-local paths, or debug
diagnostics as the normal way to recover an oversized Tool result.

## Tool Runs And Result Size Are Different

A long run can contain several Tool calls, updates, outputs, results, or
failures. Oysterun may group that activity into a retained first event and
ordered continuation records. Those records preserve the logical Tool run;
they do not override the 2 MiB display boundary for the content of one Tool
result.

## Return To The Session

After inspecting an available detail, use the visible close, back, or return
control. The original Tool row should remain in the same Session chat.

If the detail belongs to another Tool row, fails to open for content within the
supported limit, or leaves the Session unusable, collect the visible row label,
error, and Session context for support. Do not repeat the original user request
unless repeating its side effects is known to be safe.

File Preview is a separate surface. It does not currently promise `N of M`,
text-size controls, or previous/next-file navigation. Its future render and
download limits are not defined by this Tool-result policy.
