# Filter and Search System

Advanced filtering and search capabilities for OpenCodeAutoPM PRDs, Epics, and Tasks.

## Quick Start

```javascript
const QueryParser = require('./query-parser');
const FilterEngine = require('./filter-engine');
// Parse CLI arguments
const parser = new QueryParser();
const query = parser.parse(['--status', 'active', '--priority', 'high']);
// Apply filters
const engine = new FilterEngine();
const results = await engine.loadAndFilter('prds', query);
```

## Features

✓ **Multiple Filter Types**: status, priority, epic, author, assignee, dates
✓ **Date Range Filtering**: created-after, created-before, updated-after, updated-before
✓ **Full-Text Search**: Case-insensitive search in content and frontmatter
✓ **AND Logic**: All filters must match for inclusion
✓ **High Performance**: <500ms for 100 items, <2s for 1,000 items
✓ **Rich Match Context**: Line numbers and snippets in search results

## Components

### QueryParser (`query-parser.js`)

Converts CLI-style filter arguments into structured query objects.

**Key Methods:**
- `parse(args)` - Parse CLI arguments
- `validate(query)` - Validate query object
- `getSupportedFilters()` - List supported filters
- `getFilterHelp()` - Get help text

### FilterEngine (`filter-engine.js`)

Applies filters and search to markdown files with YAML frontmatter.

**Key Methods:**
- `loadFiles(directory)` - Load markdown files
- `filter(files, filters)` - Apply filters (AND logic)
- `search(files, query)` - Full-text search
- `loadAndFilter(type, filters)` - Convenience method
- `searchAll(query, options)` - Search multiple types
- `filterByDateRange(type, options)` - Date range filtering

## Supported Filters

| Filter | Example | Description |
|--------|---------|-------------|
| `--status` | `--status active` | Filter by status |
| `--priority` | `--priority P0` | Filter by priority |
| `--epic` | `--epic epic-001` | Filter by epic ID |
| `--author` | `--author john` | Filter by author |
| `--assignee` | `--assignee jane` | Filter by assignee |
| `--created-after` | `--created-after 2025-01-01` | Created after date |
| `--created-before` | `--created-before 2025-12-31` | Created before date |
| `--updated-after` | `--updated-after 2025-06-01` | Updated after date |
| `--updated-before` | `--updated-before 2025-06-30` | Updated before date |
| `--search` | `--search "OAuth2"` | Full-text search |

## Examples

### Example 1: Simple Filtering

```javascript
const engine = new FilterEngine();
// Find all active high-priority PRDs
const prds = await engine.loadAndFilter('prds', {
  status: 'active',
  priority: 'high'
});
console.log(`Found ${prds.length} active high-priority PRDs`);
```

### Example 2: Date Range Query

```javascript
const engine = new FilterEngine();
// Find PRDs created in Q1 2025
const q1PRDs = await engine.filterByDateRange('prds', {
  field: 'created',
  after: '2025-01-01',
  before: '2025-03-31'
});
```

### Example 3: Full-Text Search

```javascript
const engine = new FilterEngine();
// Search for "authentication" across all PRDs
const files = await engine.loadFiles('.opencode/prds');
const results = await engine.search(files, 'authentication');
results.forEach(result => {
  console.log(`Found in: ${result.frontmatter.title}`);
  result.matches.forEach(match => {
    console.log(`  Line ${match.line}: ${match.context}`);
  });
});
```

### Example 4: Combined Filters and Search

```javascript
const parser = new QueryParser();
const engine = new FilterEngine();
// Parse CLI arguments
const query = parser.parse([
  '--status', 'active',
  '--priority', 'P0',
  '--created-after', '2025-01-01',
  '--search', 'OAuth2'
]);
// Validate
const validation = parser.validate(query);
if (!validation.valid) {
  console.error('Invalid query:', validation.errors);
  process.exit(1);
}
// Apply filters
const results = await engine.loadAndFilter('prds', query);
console.log(`Found ${results.length} matching PRDs`);
```

### Example 5: Search Across Multiple Types

```javascript
const engine = new FilterEngine();
// Search for "authentication" in PRDs and Epics
const results = await engine.searchAll('authentication', {
  types: ['prds', 'epics']
});
console.log(`Found ${results.length} matches across PRDs and Epics`);
```

## Testing

## Architecture

### TDD Approach

This feature was developed using strict Test-Driven Development (TDD):

1. **RED Phase**: Wrote comprehensive test suites first
   - `test/unit/query-parser.test.js` (62 tests)
   - `test/unit/filter-engine.test.js` (44 tests)

2. **GREEN Phase**: Implemented code to pass all tests
   - `lib/query-parser.js` (220 lines, fully documented)
   - `lib/filter-engine.js` (332 lines, fully documented)

3. **REFACTOR Phase**: Optimized while maintaining 100% test pass rate
   - Performance optimizations
   - Code cleanup
   - Documentation improvements

### Design Principles

- **Single Responsibility**: Each class has a clear, focused purpose
- **Separation of Concerns**: Parsing separated from filtering
- **Fail-Safe Defaults**: Graceful handling of missing/malformed data
- **Performance First**: Efficient algorithms for large datasets
- **Developer Experience**: Clear APIs, comprehensive documentation

## Integration Points

### Current Integration

The filter/search system is designed for integration with:

- **CLI Commands**: Parse arguments from `process.argv`
- **Local Mode**: Filter `.opencode/prds/`, `.opencode/epics/`, `.opencode/tasks/`
- **Batch Processing**: Process multiple files efficiently
- **Reporting**: Generate filtered reports and statistics

### Potential Integrations

- **Interactive Mode**: Build queries interactively with `inquirer`
- **Watch Mode**: Auto-refresh results when files change
- **Export**: Export filtered results to JSON/CSV
- **Saved Queries**: Store frequently-used filters
- **Dashboard**: Real-time statistics and filtering

## Contributing

When extending this system:

1. **Write tests first** (TDD approach)
2. **Maintain 100% test coverage**
3. **Update documentation**
4. **Follow existing patterns**
5. **Ensure performance benchmarks still pass**

## Version History
