description: Design system architecture — components, contracts, data models, and technology choices
---

Design the architecture for a feature or system before it gets built.

Invoke the `myaidev-architect` skill, which runs a multi-agent pipeline: requirements
analysis, system design, then a compliance check against engineering and security
practices. For a single-pass design without the pipeline, invoke the `dev-architect` agent
directly.

## Usage

```bash
/myai-dev-architect "Design a multi-tenant billing system"
/myai-dev-architect "Add real-time notifications" --scope=module
/myai-dev-architect "Split the monolith's payment path" --style=microservices --depth=deep
```

## Options

| Option | Description | Default |
|--------|-------------|---------|
| `--scope` | `file`, `module`, `project`, `system` | `module` |
| `--style` | `monolith`, `microservices`, `serverless`, `event-driven` | auto-detected |
| `--depth` | `shallow`, `standard`, `deep` | `standard` |
| `--diagrams` | Generate Mermaid diagrams | `true` |

## What It Does

1. Reads the existing codebase to find the architectural patterns already in use
2. Decomposes requirements into components with single responsibilities
3. Defines the contracts between them — signatures, endpoints, event shapes
4. Models the data, including constraints and the migration path
5. Validates the design: circular dependencies, testability, failure blast radius
6. Runs a compliance check and revises if it finds blockers

## Output

`{session_dir}/architecture.md`, where `{session_dir}` is `.myaidev-session/` (or the
legacy `.sparc-session/`). Standalone runs write to `docs/architecture/` instead.

Consumed by `/myai-dev-code`, `/myai-dev-review`, and `/myai-dev-docs`.
