## Flavors available on Windows

Windows has an MSI for two [flavors](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/):

!!! warning "There is no native Runtime on Windows"

    The [Runtime](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/#runtime) is a native binary built for Linux and macOS only; no `tenx-*-windows-*-native` asset exists in any release. To run a reporter, receiver, retriever, MCP server or the CLI on Windows, install [Runtime (JVM)](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/#runtime-jvm), which is the same run-only build delivered as an MSI with a bundled JRE. `runtime-jvm` is the default on Windows, so no flavor needs to be set. Asking for `TENX_FLAVOR=runtime` explicitly fails with an error naming the reason, rather than quietly installing something different from what was asked for.

## PowerShell installer (recommended)

Run in PowerShell as Administrator:

irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/log-10x/pipeline-releases/main/install.ps1 | iex
```

This downloads and installs the MSI, downloads configuration and symbol libraries, and sets up all environment variables automatically. Requires PowerShell 5+ (included in Windows 10/11).

To install a specific version or flavor:

```powershell
$env:TENX_VERSION="1.0.0"; $env:TENX_FLAVOR="compiler"; irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/log-10x/pipeline-releases/main/install.ps1 | iex
```

```powershell
$env:TENX_FLAVOR="runtime-jvm"; irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/log-10x/pipeline-releases/main/install.ps1 | iex
```

Open a new terminal after install to load the environment variables.

## MSI package (manual)

1. Download the MSI for the flavor you want from the [latest release](https://github.com/log-10x/pipeline-releases/releases/latest){target="\_blank"}, double click and follow the instructions.

2. Download the config tar.gz from the [latest releases](https://github.com/log-10x/pipeline-releases/releases/latest){target="\_blank"} page.

3. Extract the config tar.gz into `C:\ProgramData\tenx`

4. Download the [symbol library](https://doc.log10x.com/compile/link/#symbol-library) `tenx-symbols-<ver>.10x.tar` from the same release and put it in `C:\ProgramData\tenx\symbols`. The PowerShell installer above does this step automatically; a manual MSI install has to place the tar itself.

5. Set up environment variables (see [Paths](paths.md) for details):

The MSI file name carries the package id, not the flavor name: `tenx-edge-<ver>.msi` is Runtime (JVM), and `tenx-cloud-<ver>.msi` is the Compiler. See [flavor names and file names](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/#flavor-names-and-file-names).
