Install the [Runtime](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/#runtime) flavor of the 10x Engine via Homebrew. The formula includes the native binary, [pipeline modules](https://doc.log10x.com/install/paths/#config), [configuration files](https://doc.log10x.com/install/paths/#config), and pre-compiled [symbol libraries](https://doc.log10x.com/compile/link/#symbol-library).

## Flavors available on macOS

macOS has an artifact for all three [flavors](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/), on both Intel and Apple silicon:

The native Runtime is the flavor to use on macOS. Runtime (JVM) exists for hosts where the native binary will not run; on Windows, which has no native build, it is the only runtime.

## Install

```bash
brew trust log-10x/tap
brew install log-10x/tap/log10x
```

The `tenx` command is available immediately.

!!! note "Why `brew trust`"

    Homebrew 6.0.14 and later refuse to load a formula from a third-party tap
    until the tap is trusted, so `brew install` alone fails with:

    ```
    Error: Refusing to load formula log-10x/tap/log10x from untrusted tap log-10x/tap.
    ```

    Older Homebrew versions do not need the first command, and running it there
    is harmless.

!!! warning "Upgrading from an install made before March 2026"

    `log10x` used to be the name of the **cask** that installs the Cloud desktop
    app. That cask is now `log10x-cloud`, and `log10x` is the formula that
    installs the `tenx` CLI.

    If you installed the old cask before the rename, Homebrew still treats it as
    the owner of the `log10x` name and declines to link the formula:

    ```
    ==> log10x cask is installed, skipping link.
    Removing: /usr/local/Cellar/log10x/1.0.21...
    ```

    The upgrade reports success, and `tenx` is then missing from your PATH.
    Restore it with:

    ```bash
    brew link --overwrite log10x
    ```

    Verify with `tenx --version`. To clear the cause rather than the symptom,
    remove the superseded cask: `brew uninstall --cask log10x`.

    Fresh installs are not affected.

## What's included

The formula installs:

## Configuration

The `tenx` wrapper sets default paths automatically. To override, set these environment variables:

## Compiler flavor

To install the [Compiler](https://doc.log10x.com/engine/flavors/#compiler) flavor (required for [symbol library compilation](https://doc.log10x.com/compile/) and [cloud applications](https://doc.log10x.com/apps/)):

brew install --cask log-10x/tap/log10x-cloud
```

## Update

```bash
brew upgrade log10x
```

## Uninstall

```bash
brew uninstall log10x
```
