**Total: 70+ regex patterns** for complete HLS specification coverage.

#### 3. Playlist Detection (`src/detector.ts`)

Smart detection to route between IPTV and HLS parsers:

- **`detectPlaylistType(text)`** - Analyzes playlist content and returns "iptv" or "hls"
- **Detection heuristics:**
  - HLS indicators: `#EXT-X-VERSION`, `#EXT-X-TARGETDURATION`, `#EXT-X-STREAM-INF`, etc.
  - IPTV indicators: `tvg-id`, `tvg-name`, `group-title`, `#EXTGRP`, `#EXTVLCOPT`, etc.
  - Scoring system with weighted indicators
  - Defaults to IPTV for backward compatibility
- **`parsePlaylistAuto(text)`** - Auto-detects format and parses accordingly
- Returns `{ format: "hls" | "iptv", playlist: HlsPlaylist | IptvPlaylist }`

#### 4. Updated Exports (`src/index.ts`)

Added HLS exports while maintaining all existing IPTV exports:

```typescript
// HLS Parser (new in v0.3.0)
export * from "./hls-types.js";
export { parseHlsPlaylist } from "./hls-parser.js";
export { detectPlaylistType, parsePlaylistAuto } from "./detector.js";
```

### Architecture Decisions

1. **Dual-Parser Approach**
   - Separate HLS parser (`hls-parser.ts`) alongside existing IPTV parser (`parser.ts`)
   - No modifications to existing IPTV parser
   - Zero breaking changes guaranteed

2. **Auto-Detection Layer**
   - Smart detection routes to appropriate parser
   - Scoring system based on tag presence
   - Backward compatible (defaults to IPTV when ambiguous)

3. **Type-Safe Design**
   - Complete TypeScript type coverage
   - Type guards for runtime type checking
   - Union types for parsed results

4. **Performance Optimizations**
   - Pre-compiled regex patterns (no runtime compilation)
   - Single-pass parsing
   - Minimal object allocations
   - Efficient line processing

5. **Error Handling**
   - Lenient parsing (continues on errors)
   - Comprehensive warnings array
   - Preserves partial results

### Performance Characteristics

- **Pre-compiled Regex**: All 70+ patterns compiled at module load time
- **Single-Pass Parsing**: Processes each line once
- **Efficient State Management**: Minimal state tracking during parsing
- **Zero Dependencies**: No additional dependencies for HLS parsing
- **Memory Efficient**: Reuses regex instances, avoids unnecessary allocations

### Breaking Changes

**NONE** - This is a feature addition with 100% backward compatibility:

- All existing IPTV functionality unchanged
- All existing tests pass without modification
- All existing exports preserved
- New HLS functionality is additive only

### Testing Results

- ✅ Existing IPTV tests: 100% pass rate
- ✅ New HLS media tests: 15+ tests passing
- ✅ New HLS master tests: 14+ tests passing
- ✅ New HLS detector tests: 20+ tests passing

### Future Enhancements

Potential areas for future improvement:

1. **Playlist Validation**
   - Strict mode for specification compliance
   - More detailed validation rules
   - Error recovery suggestions

2. **Playlist Manipulation**
   - Programmatic playlist creation
   - Segment filtering and manipulation
   - Variant stream selection helpers

3. **Network Loading**
   - Recursive master → media playlist loading
   - Segment URL resolution
   - Base URL handling

4. **Advanced Parsing**
   - SCTE-35 detailed parsing
   - Program date-time calculations
   - Segment duration validation

5. **Performance**
   - Streaming parser for very large playlists
   - Incremental parsing for LIVE updates
   - WebAssembly acceleration

### Known Limitations

1. **No Network Operations**
   - Parser operates on text only
   - Does not fetch remote playlists or segments
   - Users handle HTTP requests separately

2. **No Playlist Generation**
   - Parser is read-only
   - No programmatic playlist building (yet)
   - Can only parse existing playlists

3. **Limited Validation**
   - Lenient parsing prioritizes compatibility
   - Does not enforce strict HLS specification compliance
   - Provides warnings instead of errors

4. **Single-Pass Parsing**
   - Cannot handle forward references
   - Segments inherit most recent key/map
   - Variable resolution only looks backward

These limitations are by design to keep the parser:

- Simple and maintainable
- Compatible with real-world playlists
- Focused on parsing, not validation
