BMHome setup

BMHome

Native Apple Home control for your BM — lock, precondition, range and battery, with BMW CarData in the background.

Welcome

Set up BMW CarData access and choose how your car appears inside Apple Home. BMHome is designed to be quiet, reliable and child-bridge friendly.

1

Create your BMW CarData Client ID

Open the BMW CarData Portal, sign in with your BMW ID, register an application, then copy the Client ID.

  • Use a browser rather than the My BMW app.
  • Keep the Client ID private.
Required. This is used by BMHome to authenticate with BMW CarData.
2

Choose your vehicle

Enter a VIN if you want BMHome to bind to a specific vehicle. Leave it blank to auto-detect the first available vehicle.

3

Confirm Apple Home features

Select the tiles and services you want BMHome to publish to Apple Home.

4

Connection behaviour

MQTT streaming gives BMHome the best live experience. Polling remains useful as a fallback.

Most users should leave this at 180 seconds.
5

Save settings

Press Save settings to write this configuration into Homebridge. If Homebridge asks to restart, allow it to restart so your Apple Home tiles update.

6

Occasional maintenance

BMHome is designed to run quietly in the background. Occasionally, Homebridge may show updates for the operating system, Node.js or BMHome itself.

Applying updates every few months is recommended and usually takes only a few minutes.
