What is Ripple?

Ripple is an internet protocol for financial transactions. It uses a shared ledger to track balances among parties no matter how physically far apart they may be. This allows each payment to clear in seconds rather than days. It also makes it possible for a person who uses one currency to seamlessly pay a person who uses a different currency.

Who is it for?

The ripple protocol is being used by individuals and businesses who strive for a faster and easier way of managing their funds.

How does it work?

The Ripple network is, at its core, a shared public database. This database includes a ledger, which serves to track accounts and the balances associated with them. Ripple supports any currency, and gives users complete freedom to transact in any currency. A user can hold balances in one currency, and send payments in another.

What is a Ripple Wallet?

A ripple wallet enables users of ripple network to manage, send or receive their funds in an easy and intuitive way.

What is a Ripple Gateway?

A ripple gateway is a bridge between ripple network, fiat currency, and other virtual currencies and it enables customers to do three things:

  • Deposit funds in exchange for a balance issued by that gateway
  • Transfer their balance to another customer of the gateway
  • Withdraw funds by redeeming a balance issued by that gateway

Reserves

To protect the ripple network from the abusive creation of excess entries in the ledger an account is required to have a reserve of XRP to operate.

Current reserve is 20 XRP + 5 XRP owner reserve.

The owner reserve is the amount of XRP reserved in the account for each ledger item owned by the account. Ledger items an account may own include trust lines, open orders, and tickets.

To use GateHub we recommend at least 50 XRP.

What is XRP?

XRP is native currency called ripples for ripple protocol and they work as intermediary currency between any other given currency pairs. XRP can be categorised as intermediary currency which connects any other given pairs on the ripple network ( e.g. USD/BTC ).

How does XRP protect network from spam?

XRP protects its network from spam by introducing transaction fee which depletes "spammers" wallet. Furthermore any other currency on the ripple network requires user to extend a trust line which can be canceled at any given time.

What is their value?

XRP's value can be monitored through Markets Analytics

What is GateHub?

GateHub is both a Ripple Gateway and a Ripple Client. It enables you to easily fund your Ripple accounts from your bank. It also makes it easy for you to send money across ripple network.

What are Wallets?

Wallets are a place where you store your funds and allows an individual to make or receive transactions.

What is Gateway Balance?

Gateway balance shows you how much funds you have available for a withdrawal either to ripple network or your bank account.

What is Wallet Balance?

It shows all your funds on the ripple network in a specific wallet.

What is the difference between Send and Withdrawal?

When you are using "Send" option you will be sending funds to another Wallet (ripple address) with Withdrawal you will be initiating normal withdrawal to your bank account.

What is the difference between Deposit and Receive?

"Deposit" option provides our customers with deposit details for wire transfer to their ripple wallet.

"Receive" option offers and provides you with a ripple address which you can share with any other ripple user and receive funds from their wallets.

Can I deposit funds from a bank account other than my own?

We are unable to process third party transfers. All transfers to and from your Gatehub account must be paid from or be received by a bank account held in your name.

How do I change my email address?

Users can not change their email address by themselves. If you wish to change your current email address, we kindly ask our users to contact support for further assistance.
