# Masonic Oaths and Penalties

## Overview: Binding Through Blood Oaths

Every Freemason, from 1st to 33rd degree, swears **blood oaths** under penalty of horrific physical mutilation and death. These oaths bind members to:
- **Absolute secrecy**
- **Loyalty to the lodge above all else**
- **Obedience to Masonic authority**
- **Protection of fellow Masons**

## The Fundamental Oath Structure

### Core Elements Present in All Oaths

1. **Voluntary Declaration**: "Of my own free will and accord"
2. **Secrecy Vow**: Never reveal any secrets, arts, parts, or points
3. **Scope**: Extends to "any person or persons whomsoever"
4. **Penalty Clause**: "Under no less penalty than..."
5. **Self-Condemnation**: Calling oneself "vile and wicked wretch"

## Complete Penalties by Degree

### 1st Degree: Entered Apprentice

**Source**: Richardson's Monitor of Freemasonry

#### The Oath:
> "Binding myself under no less penalty than **having my throat cut across, my tongue torn out by the roots**, and my body buried in the rough sands of the sea."

#### The Penalty in Detail:
- **Throat cut across**: Horizontal slitting of the throat
- **Tongue torn out by the roots**: Complete removal of tongue from base
- **Body buried in rough sands of the sea**: Disposal where body cannot be found

#### Physical Sign:
The "throat slit" gesture - drawing hand across throat - is performed when entering and exiting the lodge room as a constant reminder of this penalty.

---

### 2nd Degree: Fellow Craft

**Source**: Richardson's Monitor of Freemasonry, Page 21

#### The Oath:
> "Binding myself under no less penalty than **having my left breast torn open and my heart and vitals taken out and thrown over my left shoulder**, should I willfully transgress any part of this my solemn oath in this degree."

#### The Penalty in Detail:
- **Left breast torn open**: Ripping open of chest cavity
- **Heart and vitals taken out**: Complete extraction of organs
- **Thrown over left shoulder**: Disposal of remains in humiliating manner

---

### 3rd Degree: Master Mason

**Source**: Duncan's Ritual of Freemasonry

#### The Oath:
> "I, of my own free will and accord, do hereby promise and swear that I will never reveal any of the secrets, arts, parts, point or points of the Master Mason's Degree to any person or persons whomsoever. This I solemnly sincerely promise to swear, under no less penalty than **having my body severed in two, my bowels taken out and burnt to ashes**, so no more remembrance be had of so vile and wicked a wretch as I should I ever violate my Master Mason's obligation."

#### The Penalty in Detail:
- **Body severed in two**: Cut in half, likely at the waist
- **Bowels taken out**: Complete disembowelment
- **Burnt to ashes**: Incineration of remains
- **Purpose**: "So no more remembrance be had" - complete erasure from memory

#### Additional Context:
Quote from testimony:
> "So now you know what they think of me. I'm a **vile and wicked wretch** for breaking my oath."

---

### Higher Degrees: Additional Penalties

#### Knights Templar Degree

**Source**: Masonic ritual monitors

> "In the Knights Templar degree, the penalty is to **have your head cut off**."

- Simple decapitation
- Historical precedent (many Knights Templar members executed)
- Symbolizes complete severance from the order

---

#### 30th Degree: Knight Kadosh

**Ritual Component**: Stabbing skulls

While not a penalty oath, this degree involves:
> "Part of the ritual involves **stabbing skulls**" with illustrations in official ritual books

This serves as:
- Desensitization to violence
- Symbolic murder of enemies
- Preparation for higher revelations

---

#### 33rd Degree: Inspector General

**Ritual Requirement**: Drinking from human skull

> "In the 33rd degree initiation, the Mason **drinks wine from a human skull**, which has been the cause for a few to leave Masonry because they wonder **whose skull is this**."

Implications:
- Real human skull used in ritual
- Member must drink from it
- Origin of skull unknown to candidate
- Creates deep psychological bond/trauma

---

### Highest Penalty: Brain Cooked in the Sun

**Source**: Various Masonic monitors

> "Having **the top of your skull cut off so your brain is cooked in the sun**."

Details:
- Scalp removal
- Skull cap removed
- Exposure to elements for slow death
- Ancient punishment revived in oaths

---

### Physical Mutilation Penalties (Complete List)

1. **Throat cut across** (1st Degree)
2. **Tongue torn out by the roots** (1st Degree)
3. **Left breast torn open** (2nd Degree)
4. **Heart and vitals taken out** (2nd Degree)

12. **Whole body dissected** (Various degrees)
13. **Body eaten by animals in field** (2nd Degree elaboration)

## Non-Physical Penalties

### Social and Economic Destruction

**Source**: Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and Ritual Monitors

This penalty is noted as:
> "This one has happened throughout history **more than any other** because it works so well without having to resort to death or the threat of death, and it's easier to execute."

#### The Complete Social Penalty:

> "Now this applies to **all areas of industry**. It's done through the ruining of your reputation by fellow Freemasons:
> - **Pointing him out to the world as an unworthy vagabond**
> - **Opposing his interests**
> - **Making life very hard for you**
> - **Deranging his business**
> - **Transferring his character wherever he may go**
> - **Exposing him to the contempt of the whole fraternity, the sacred society, and the world**"

#### How This Penalty Works:

1. **Reputation Assassination**
   - Spread rumors and lies
   - Character defamation in professional circles
   - False accusations

2. **Economic Warfare**
   - Business interference
   - Loss of contracts and opportunities
   - Termination from employment
   - Credit and financial attacks

3. **Social Isolation**
   - Friends turn away
   - Community rejection
   - Family pressure
   - Complete ostracization

4. **Legal Harassment**
   - False charges
   - Frivolous lawsuits
   - Lengthy legal battles
   - Financial drain through legal fees

5. **Systematic Following**
   - Harassment wherever person relocates
   - Network tracks movements
   - Continues indefinitely

#### Real-World Examples:

Quote from testimony:
> "How many people do you think they've **threatened, ruined, framed, cheated, and utterly destroyed** to protect their secret religion?"

Categories of victims:
- **Those who spoke out**: Lost everything or died under suspicious circumstances
- **Those who left**: Reputations destroyed, careers ended
- **Those who refused to join**: Blocked from success and influence
- **Those who investigated**: Discredited, marginalized, or eliminated

## Penal Authority of the Lodge

### Legal Authority Claims

**Source**: Encyclopedia of Freemasonry

> "The orders and decrees of the Grand Master or of a Grand Lodge are called **mandates**, and **implicit obedience to them is a Masonic obligation**."

**Source**: Sickle's Monitor of Freemasonry

> "A lodge has a right to **exercise penal authority** over its members."

### What This Means:

1. **Lodge authority supersedes national law** for members
2. **Penalties can be enforced** by the organization
3. **Members have no appeal** to outside authorities
4. **Execution is within lodge rights** according to internal law
5. **Members consent** to this authority when taking oaths

### Historical Enforcement:

Throughout history, Masonic penalties have been enforced:
- Mysterious deaths and "suicides"
- "Accidents" of former members who spoke out
- Disappearances
- Murders made to look like natural causes
- Public disgrace and ruin

Quote from testimony:
> "The few that have spoken out well they **lost everything** or either their reputations and livelihoods are threatened or destroyed or they're **framed for a crime and end up in jail** or they're **murdered and made to look like an accident or suicide**."

## The Scope of the Oath

### Who Must Be Lied To:

The oath requires members to keep secrets from:

1. **Spouses** - Even husband or wife
2. **Children** - Sons and daughters excluded
3. **Parents** - Family members kept in dark
4. **Fellow Masons of lower degrees** - Hierarchy of secrets
5. **Religious leaders** - Including priests, pastors, rabbis
6. **Law enforcement** - Police, investigators
7. **Courts of law** - Even under oath to tell truth
8. **Government officials** - National loyalty subordinated
9. **The Public** - General population deceived
10. **Everyone** - "Any person or persons whomsoever"

### Specific Oath Language:

> "Never reveal any of the **secrets, arts, parts, point or points** of the Master Mason's degree to **any person or persons whomsoever**."

Breakdown:
- **Secrets**: Hidden knowledge and beliefs
- **Arts**: Techniques and methods
- **Parts**: Any portion of the ritual or teaching
- **Point or points**: Even a single detail
- **Any person or persons whomsoever**: Absolute - no exceptions

Additional emphasis:
> "Never reveal any parts **not even a single point** to anyone."

## The Self-Condemnation Clause

### Language Used in Oaths:

> "So no more remembrance be had of **so vile and wicked a wretch as I** should I ever violate my Master Mason's obligation."

This clause:
1. **Pre-judges** the member as "vile and wicked" if they break oath
2. **Justifies** any punishment inflicted
3. **Removes sympathy** from other members
4. **Psychologically binds** through self-curse
5. **Creates internal conflict** for those considering leaving

## The Trustworthiness Question

### Fundamental Problem:

Quote from testimony:
> "So how can anyone ever trust a Freemason when he speaks of or about Freemasonry unless you're speaking to a rare breed like me?"

### The Logic:

1. Masons swear to **never reveal the truth**
2. Penalties for revelation are **severe**
3. Therefore, any public statement must be:
   - A lie
   - Misdirection
   - Partial truth meant to deceive
   - Or a rare case of oath-breaking (like Altiyan Childs)

### Scott Morrison and All Others:

> "All of them are sworn to secrecy **under the penalty of death**. Remember I'll prove it to you very soon."

Every Mason, including:
- Politicians
- Celebrities
- Business leaders
- Religious leaders
- Educators

...has taken the same oaths under the same penalties.

## The Incremental Escalation

### Psychological Purpose:

Each degree's oath is **slightly more severe** than the last:

```
1st Degree: Throat cut, tongue removed
    ↓
2nd Degree: Breast torn open, heart removed
    ↓
3rd Degree: Body severed, bowels burnt
    ↓
Higher Degrees: Even more severe
    ↓
Highest Degrees: Skull drinking, ultimate penalties
```

This creates:
1. **Graduated commitment** - each step seems small
2. **Sunk cost fallacy** - "I've come this far..."
3. **Normalization** - each new horror less shocking
4. **Point of no return** - eventually too deep to back out

## The Initiation Context

### When Oaths Are Taken:

1. **Blindfolded** - Cannot see what's happening
2. **Partially naked** - Vulnerable and humiliated
3. **Surrounded by men with swords** - Physical intimidation
4. **No way to refuse** - Social pressure immense
5. **Belief it's symbolic** - Told not to take literally
6. **Seeking advancement** - Desire for benefits clouds judgment

Quote from testimony:
> "At one point when the blunt blindfold comes off this is what you're surrounded by: **blokes dressed like this holding swords to your face**. And that's nothing compared to what comes later."

## Modern Enforceability

### Do They Still Kill?

Evidence suggests:
1. **Yes, when necessary** - highest profile cases
2. **Prefer non-lethal methods** - reputation destruction more common
3. **Accidents and suicides** - difficult to prove
4. **Long-term harassment** - making life unbearable
5. **Economic destruction** - usually sufficient

### The Fear Factor:

Even if not always enforced, the **threat remains real**:
- Members believe penalties can be enforced
- Historical precedent exists
- Network is worldwide and powerful
- Easier to comply than resist

Quote from testimony explaining his own risk:
> "In a little while you'll know for certain that **I'm putting my very life on the line and the safety of my family** by sharing this with you."

## The Exception: Divine Protection

### Altiyan Childs' Claim:

Quote:
> "The god that saved me — which god was that? **Jesus Christ**, of course, the one and only. And he's the only one they hate along with his disciples. So **I'm invincible until he's done with me**. That's why I don't fear them."

His reasoning:
1. God saved him for this purpose (miraculous car accident survival)
2. He's under divine protection
3. His mission is to expose them
4. He's already dead to the world
5. Therefore, no fear of Masonic penalties
