# Transfermarkt data provenance

## Transfermarkt data sources

**Category:** aggregated (community) and derived (market values).

Transfermarkt's market values are estimates, not transfer fees. Transfermarkt
says no algorithm produces them: they come from pricing models and detailed
discussion by the Transfermarkt community. Transfermarkt does not publicly
document how its other data, such as transfers and squads, is collected.

Source: [Transfermarkt market value definition](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/navigation/mwdefinition):
"Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm" and values are calculated "taking into
account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the
Transfermarkt community, which engages in detailed discussions about the
values." Checked 2026-09-24.
