# ESPN soccer teams and standings

Observed on 2026-09-06 for eng.1 and esp.1. ESPN publishes no schema for these
endpoints. Team lists were requested without a season; standings with season=2024
and season=2025.

## Team discovery and metadata

On site.api.espn.com, the observed request
`GET /apis/site/v2/sports/soccer/{league}/teams` returns nested sport and league
objects, with team records below the league. Do not assume a top-level teams array.

Join on the team ID, not the name or abbreviation. Requested without a season,
the list is not a history of every club that has played in the league.

## League standings and season selection

On site.api.espn.com, the observed request is
`GET /apis/v2/sports/soccer/{league}/standings`. Notice the prefix apis/v2 here,
compared with apis/site/v2 for the teams and scoreboard requests.

For eng.1 and esp.1, season=2024 and season=2025 returned the matching
season.year, where the year is the season's start (2025 is 2025-26). Confirm the
table from the response's season fields. Standings as of a past matchday were
not tested.

Select statistics by name, never by array position. Keep each group separate
rather than merging groups into one table. A missing statistic is not a zero.
