    "content": "<div>\n<p><b>Ron Conway</b> is an American <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_investor\">angel investor</a>, often described as one of the \" <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_angel\">super angels</a>\". Conway is recognized as a strong networker and is based in <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_Valley\">Silicon Valley</a>.</p>\n<p>A former salesman who had made a fortune in the computer business, Conway knew little about technology on his first entry to the business. Ron Conway graduated from <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jose_State_University\">San Jose State University</a> with a Bachelor's Degree in <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_Science\">Political Science</a>.</p>\n<p>Conway previously worked with <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Semiconductor_Corporation\">National Semiconductor Corporation</a> in marketing positions (1973-1979), <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altos_Computer_Systems\">Altos Computer Systems</a>, as a co-founder, President and CEO, (1979-1990) and Personal Training Systems (PTS) as CEO (1991-1995). PTS was acquired by SmartForce/SkillSoft.</p>\n<p>As founder and Managing Partner of the Angel Investors LP funds, he was an early stage <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investor\">investor</a> in <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google\">Google</a>, <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ask_Jeeves\">Ask Jeeves</a> and <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal\">PayPal</a>. He began investing independently in 2005, and by 2006 had already achieved sixth place in the <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbes_Magazine\">Forbes Magazine</a> Midas list of top \"dealmakers\".</p>\n<p>Conway's first fund, Angel Investors I, raised and invested in 1998, generated a 7 times return, and his second, raised and invested during 1999, saw a 1.5 times return. Ron invests with <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SV_Angel\">SV Angel</a>, his investment firm.</p>\n<p>Some Valley observers, notably <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VentureBeat\">VentureBeat</a>, have been critical of Ron Conway for his investments during the <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_boom\">Internet boom</a>, believing them to be \"symbolic of the era's hubris.\" Conway developed a reputation for throwing lavish cocktail parties and raising cash from a diverse group of celebrities, sportspeople, and political figures such as <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Kissinger\">Henry Kissinger</a>, <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Schwarzenegger\">Arnold Schwarzenegger</a>, <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Woods\">Tiger Woods</a>, and <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaquille_O%27Neal\">Shaquille O'Neal</a>, which he then ploughed into <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Startup_company\">start-ups</a>.</p>\n<p>Conway was embroiled in a conflict with other angel investors in the <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelgate\">Angelgate</a> scandal of 2010, and, in 2011, another controversy erupted around rumors of conflicts he had with entrepreneurs.</p>\n<h3>List of investments </h3>\n<p>Conway secured funds for, among ventures, a web site to supply veterinary medical supplies, a <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weight-loss\">weight-loss</a> site, a maternity site and an e-commerce company featuring a <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine\">search engine</a> that aimed to predict the buyer's mood.</p>\n<p>Among Conway's 650 or more investments are:</p>\n<p>Conway is active in community and philanthropic activities, serving as Vice Chairman of UCSF Medical Foundation in San Francisco and also as co-chair of the \"Fight for Mike\" Homer and <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creutzfeldt-Jakob_disease\">Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease</a> (CJD). He is on the development committees of <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCLA\">UCLA</a>, St. Francis High School, Sacred Heart Schools, The <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCSF_Medical_Center\">UCSF Medical Center</a> in San Francisco, Packard Children's Hospital, Legacy Ventures, and <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_McDonald_House\">Ronald McDonald House</a> at <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford\">Stanford</a>.</p>\n<p>He is also on the Benefit Committee of the <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Woods_Foundation\">Tiger Woods Foundation</a>.</p>\n<p>In January 2012, Conway helped establish a new tech organization initiative with <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor\">Mayor</a> <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Lee_(politician)\">Ed Lee</a> and the City of <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco\">San Francisco</a> called <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sf.citi\">sf.citi</a> to promote tech jobs in the community.</p>\n<p>Conway was the single largest campaign contributor to <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_M._Lee\">Edwin M. Lee</a> in his successful campaign for <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor_of_San_Francisco\">Mayor of San Francisco</a> in November 2011; Conway raised $600,000 for Lee through independent expenditure committees.
