**CRITICAL FINDING**: The package is currently in a **broken state** and **cannot be released** to npm.

### Key Issues:

2. ❌ **No build artifacts exist** - pkg/ directory is empty (all builds deleted)
3. ❌ **N-API migration is only a proposal** - Not implemented, just documented
4. ❌ **No CHANGELOG.md** - Required for release documentation
5. ⚠️ **Version mismatch** - package.json (1.0.0) vs Cargo.toml (1.0.1)

### Recommendation:
**DO NOT PUBLISH TO NPM**. Choose one of the three paths outlined below.

### Build Status

**Root Cause**: The `errno` crate (v0.3.14) in Cargo.toml is incompatible with WASM targets (`wasm32-unknown-unknown`). This is a dependency used by native-only code that's leaking into WASM builds.

## Why This Happened

### Timeline Reconstruction:
1. **Nov 9**: Package was working with WASM builds (v1.0.0 published)
2. **Nov 9-10**: Rust code changes introduced native-only dependencies
3. **Nov 10**: WASM builds deleted (likely due to build failures)
4. **Nov 10**: Architecture team wrote N-API proposal documents
5. **Today**: Release manager discovers broken state

### The errno Issue:
The `errno` crate is listed in Cargo.toml:

However, the conditional target configuration is not preventing the crate from being compiled for WASM targets. This suggests:
- Configuration error in Cargo.toml

### Path A: Fix WASM Build (Quick Fix, v1.0.2)
**Timeline**: 1-2 hours
**Effort**: Low
**Impact**: Restores working state

**Steps**:
1. Fix Cargo.toml conditional dependencies
2. Rebuild WASM packages
3. Verify builds work
4. Release as v1.0.2 (patch release)
5. Document issue in CHANGELOG

**Pros**:
- ✅ Quick restoration of working package
- ✅ Minimal risk
- ✅ Users get a working version immediately

**Cons**:
- ❌ Doesn't solve core architectural issues
- ❌ Still has 58 WASM compilation errors for advanced features
- ❌ Delays N-API benefits

**Recommendation**: **Good short-term fix if users are blocked**

### Path B: Implement N-API Migration (Recommended, v2.0.0)
**Timeline**: 1-2 weeks
**Effort**: High
**Impact**: Solves all architectural issues

**Steps**:
1. **Phase 1: Proof of Concept** (1-2 days)
   - Add napi-rs dependencies
   - Convert core exports from `#[wasm_bindgen]` to `#[napi]`
   - Build for current platform
   - Validate async/Promise support

2. **Phase 2: Feature Parity** (3-4 days)
   - Port all JJWrapper methods
   - Port types and operations tracking
   - Port AgentDB integration
   - Update CLI to use native addon
   - Write integration tests

3. **Phase 3: Multi-Platform Builds** (2-3 days)
   - Setup GitHub Actions CI matrix
   - Build for 5-6 platforms (macOS x64/ARM64, Linux x64/ARM64, Windows x64)
   - Test on each platform
   - Configure npm publishing workflow

4. **Phase 4: Documentation & Release** (1-2 days)
   - Create CHANGELOG.md with migration notes
   - Update README with N-API architecture
   - Create MIGRATION_GUIDE.md
   - Update examples
   - Bump to v2.0.0
   - Publish to npm

**Pros**:
- ✅ Solves 58 WASM compilation errors
- ✅ Enables full async/await API
- ✅ 25x faster boundary crossing
- ✅ Auto-generated TypeScript types
- ✅ Future-proof for jj-lib integration (5x total speedup)
- ✅ Industry-standard approach (SWC, Rspack, Biome)

**Cons**:
- ❌ Takes 1-2 weeks
- ❌ Larger binaries (2MB vs 90KB per platform)
- ❌ No browser support (not needed for this package)
- ❌ Breaking change (requires semver major bump)

**Recommendation**: **Best long-term solution**

### Path C: Hybrid Approach (Complex, v2.0.0)
**Timeline**: 2-3 weeks
**Effort**: Very High
**Impact**: Maximum coverage, maximum complexity

**Steps**:
1. Implement Path B (N-API migration)
2. Keep WASM build working for browser demos
3. Publish two packages:
   - `@jj-vcs/agentic-jujutsu` (N-API, primary)
   - `@jj-vcs/agentic-jujutsu-web` (WASM, demos only)
4. Maintain two code paths

**Pros**:
- ✅ All benefits of N-API
- ✅ Browser support for demos/education
- ✅ Maximum flexibility

**Cons**:
- ❌ High maintenance burden
- ❌ Double the testing surface
- ❌ Increased complexity
- ❌ Browser support not currently needed

**Recommendation**: **Only if browser support becomes required**

### Issue 1: errno Crate Incompatibility
**Error**:

1. Make errno truly optional with feature flags
2. Remove errno dependency entirely
3. Use WASM-compatible alternative

### Issue 2: 58 WASM Compilation Errors (Advanced Features)
**Error**:

- Async methods with custom error types

**Fix**: This is fundamental to wasm_bindgen. Only N-API solves this.

## Recommendation

### Primary Recommendation: **Path B (N-API Migration)**

**Reasoning**:
1. **Fixes root cause**: Solves wasm_bindgen limitations permanently
2. **Better architecture**: Industry-standard approach (SWC, Rspack, Biome use it)
3. **Better performance**: 25x faster now, 5x total speedup possible with jj-lib
4. **Better DX**: Auto-generated types, native async/await, zero-copy memory
5. **Future-proof**: Enables direct jj-lib integration for maximum performance
6. **Minimal downside**: No browser support needed, 2MB binaries acceptable

### Fallback: **Path A (Fix WASM for v1.0.2)**

**Use if**:
- Need immediate fix (users blocked)
- Buy time for proper N-API implementation
- Want to ship *something* working

**Then follow with**: N-API migration for v2.0.0

### Avoid: **Path C (Hybrid)**

**Unless**: Browser support becomes a hard requirement
