## Building from Source

### Prerequisites

All platforms require:
- Node.js 16+
- Rust 1.70+
- Cargo

Platform-specific:
```bash
# macOS
xcode-select --install
# Linux (Ubuntu/Debian)
sudo apt-get install build-essential
# Linux (CentOS/RHEL)
sudo yum groupinstall "Development Tools"
# Windows
# Install Visual Studio Build Tools
# https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/
```

### Build Commands

```bash
# Clone repository
git clone https://github.com/ruvnet/agentic-flow.git
cd agentic-flow/packages/agentic-jujutsu
# Install dependencies
npm install
# Build for current platform
npm run build
# Build for specific platform
cargo build --release --target x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
```

### Cross-Compilation

**Linux → Windows**:
```bash
# Install cross-compilation tools
cargo install cross
# Build for Windows
cross build --release --target x86_64-pc-windows-msvc
```

**macOS Universal Binary**:
```bash
# Build both architectures
cargo build --release --target x86_64-apple-darwin
cargo build --release --target aarch64-apple-darwin
# Create universal binary
lipo -create \
  target/x86_64-apple-darwin/release/libagentic_jujutsu.dylib \
  target/aarch64-apple-darwin/release/libagentic_jujutsu.dylib \
  -output libagentic_jujutsu.dylib
```

## Installation Troubleshooting

### Platform Detection

The package automatically detects your platform:
```javascript
const os = require('os');
console.log(`Platform: ${os.platform()}`);
console.log(`Architecture: ${os.arch()}`);
```

### Manual Binary Selection

If automatic detection fails:
```bash
# Set environment variable
export AGENTIC_JUJUTSU_PLATFORM="linux-x64"
# Or use specific binary
node -e "require('./linux-x64.node')"
```

### Missing Binary Error

**Error**: `Cannot find module '*.node'`

**Solutions**:
1. Reinstall package
   ```bash
   npm uninstall agentic-jujutsu
   npm install agentic-jujutsu
   ```

2. Check platform support
   ```bash
   node -p "process.platform + '-' + process.arch"
   ```

3. Build from source
   ```bash
   npm run build
   ```

## Container Support

### Docker Images

**Recommended base images**:
```dockerfile
# Alpine Linux (smallest)
FROM node:20-alpine
RUN apk add --no-cache python3 make g++
# Ubuntu (most compatible)
FROM node:20-ubuntu
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y build-essential
# Debian (balanced)
FROM node:20-slim
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y build-essential
```

### ARM64 Containers

```dockerfile
FROM --platform=linux/arm64 node:20
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y build-essential
COPY . /app
WORKDIR /app
RUN npm install agentic-jujutsu
```

## CI/CD Platform Support

- ✅ Azure Pipelines

## Getting Help

Platform-specific issues:
1. Check [GitHub Issues](https://github.com/ruvnet/agentic-flow/issues)
2. Search by platform label
3. Create new issue with:
   - Platform details (`node -p "process.platform, process.arch"`)
   - Node.js version (`node --version`)
   - Error messages
   - Build logs

## Contributing

To add platform support:
1. Add target to `package.json` napi.triples
2. Add build job to `.github/workflows/build-native.yml`
3. Test on target platform
4. Update this document
5. Submit pull request
