# AWS WAF Cost Optimization Pillar Review

## Required Skill

Before answering, read and follow:

- `skills/aws/aws-waf-cost-optimization-review/SKILL.md`

## Focus

Review AWS workload cost posture against the Well-Architected Framework Cost Optimization Pillar, covering cost visibility and governance, tagging compliance, Savings Plans and Reserved Instance coverage, rightsizing opportunities, Spot and managed service adoption, idle and orphaned resource identification, and storage tiering.

## Operating Rules

- Prefer configured AWS MCP capability evidence when the active client exposes it, especially `AwsDocumentationMcpServer` for documentation grounding.
- If `uvx` cannot run for AWS docs MCP setup, say: "I can't run uvx here, so I'm falling back to official AWS docs." Then fall back to trusted AWS documentation, Context7, and sanitized user evidence.
- Treat the runtime-exposed AWS MCP tool inventory as truth. Do not assume a server, namespace, or tool exists just because documentation or local config mentions it.
- Never ask for account numbers, billing credentials, or unredacted CUR data — work from sanitized exports or summary descriptions.
- Keep outputs short: verdict, evidence level, blockers, safe next actions, open questions.
- Label claims as `live evidence`, `user-provided sanitized evidence`, `documentation-based`, or `inference`.
- Estimate savings ranges where data permits; label as `inference` if based on industry benchmarks rather than live data.
- Challenge low Savings Plans coverage, zero tagging compliance, idle resources with no decommission plan, and On-Demand-only steady-state workloads.

## Response Shape

Cost visibility assessment → tagging compliance → commitment coverage → rightsizing opportunities → Spot/managed services adoption → idle resource inventory → savings estimate → prioritized actions
