# TODO CLI Application

## Vision

Build a simple, efficient command-line TODO application that helps developers manage their daily tasks directly from the terminal.

## Goals

### Primary Goals
- **Simple task management**: Add, list, complete, and delete tasks with minimal commands
- **Persistent storage**: Tasks saved to a JSON file for reliability
- **Clean CLI interface**: Intuitive commands following Unix conventions
- **Zero dependencies**: Lightweight tool that just works

### Success Metrics
- Command execution time < 100ms
- Clear, helpful error messages
- Zero data loss on crashes
- Easy to extend with new features

## Target Users

- **Developers** who live in the terminal
- **Command-line enthusiasts** preferring keyboard-driven workflows
- **Minimalists** who want simple task tracking without bloat

## Non-Goals

- ❌ Web or mobile interface (CLI only)
- ❌ Cloud sync (local-first)
- ❌ Team collaboration features (single-user focus)
- ❌ Complex project management (keep it simple)

## Technical Approach

### Architecture
- **CLI Layer**: Commander.js for parsing commands and arguments
- **Storage Layer**: JSON file operations with atomic writes
- **Business Logic**: Pure functions for task operations

### Design Principles
1. **Fail fast**: Validate input immediately
2. **Atomic operations**: Never corrupt the task file
3. **Helpful feedback**: Always confirm actions to the user
4. **Extensibility**: Design for future features

## Future Considerations

While out of scope for v1.0, these could be future enhancements:
- Task priorities and due dates
- Task categories/tags
- Search and filter capabilities
- Export to other formats (CSV, Markdown)
