# GeoIcons Commercial License Agreement **Version 1.0** Copyright © 2026 GeoIcons · https://geoicons.io --- ## 1. Background & Dual-License Summary GeoIcons is distributed under a **dual-license model**: - **GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0-only)**: free for open-source projects whose entire codebase is also released under GPLv3 (see [`LICENSE`](./LICENSE)). - **This Commercial License**: for closed-source, proprietary, or commercial applications that cannot comply with GPLv3 copyleft. If your project is **not** open-sourced under GPLv3, you must purchase a Commercial License at **https://geoicons.io** before using GeoIcons. --- ## 2. Definitions - **"GeoIcons"** or the **"Software"**: the GeoIcons icon set and the accompanying framework packages (such as `@geoicons/react` and `@geoicons/core`, with additional framework packages planned), in source or compiled form, together with any updates the Licensee obtains. - **"Licensor"**: GeoIcons, the owner and provider of the Software. - **"Licensee"**: the individual or legal entity that purchases a tier under this agreement, identified by the purchase record described in §3. - **"License Key"**: the cryptographically signed token issued to the Licensee at purchase, serving as permanent proof of purchase (see §6). - **"Tier"**: the purchased license scope (Hobby, Business, or Extended) defined in §5, which fixes the license terms but never the set of icons available. - **"Product"**: a single application, website, or distributable created by the Licensee that incorporates the Software. - **"Developer"**: an individual who works on source code that incorporates the Software. - **"Redistribution"**: shipping GeoIcons as part of a product that produces copies which each use the icons (e.g., SDKs, site/app builders, themes, templates), as distinct from using the icons within the Licensee's own Product. --- ## 3. Acceptance & Effective Date This agreement becomes effective on the date the Licensee purchases a tier (the "Effective Date"). By purchasing a tier, installing the Software under a commercial License Key, or otherwise using the Software outside the GPLv3 terms, the Licensee accepts and agrees to be bound by this agreement. The purchase receipt issued by Lemon Squeezy (the Merchant of Record, see §9) and the associated License Key together identify the Licensee and the purchased Tier. --- ## 4. Grant of License Upon purchase of the applicable tier, the Licensor grants the Licensee a **non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license** to: - Install, use, and integrate the GeoIcons icon set and its components into the Licensee's applications. - Distribute the icons **as part of a compiled Product** (end-user delivery), but **not** as a standalone redistributable icon set (except under the **Extended** tier, see §5). - Make modifications for the Licensee's own internal use. This license is **permanent**. The License Key issued at purchase is a perpetual proof of purchase. It has no expiry and no version gate, and covers all current and future versions of GeoIcons for the purchased tier. --- ## 5. Tiers All tiers grant access to the identical, complete icon set. The tier defines the **license terms** (how many developers and products it covers, and whether redistribution is permitted), not which icons you can use. ### Hobby - 1 developer - 1 product - Use in closed-source and commercial apps, no redistribution - Email support - Free updates as the catalog grows ### Business - Unlimited developers - Unlimited products - Use in closed-source and commercial apps, no redistribution - Priority email support - Free updates as the catalog grows ### Extended - Unlimited developers - 1 product - Use in commercial apps + redistribution (SDKs, themes, builders) - Priority email support - Free updates as the catalog grows **Source-file downloads.** Every paid tier additionally includes the GeoIcons Figma source file and the raw icon source files (SVG). These are provided for use within the scope of the purchased tier and remain subject to the Restrictions in §7. In particular, they may not be redistributed as a standalone icon set except under the **Extended** tier. --- ## 6. License Permanence & Updates - The license and its key are **permanent**: there is no expiry, no version gate, and no upgrade fee. A purchased license covers all current and future versions of GeoIcons for its tier. - A tier may be bought as a one-time (perpetual) purchase or on annual billing. Both give you the same permanent key, and your right to use every version you have received never expires. Annual billing is only a way to keep receiving new updates; if it lapses, you keep everything already downloaded and simply stop getting new releases, per the terms published at https://geoicons.io. --- ## 7. Restrictions Except as expressly granted by the **Extended** tier (§5), the Licensee may **not**: - **Redistribute** GeoIcons as a standalone icon library, icon set, component library, or similar product, whether free or paid. - **Sublicense** or resell this license or the icons to third parties. - Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright notice, attribution, or license reference in the source code or documentation. - Repackage GeoIcons, in whole or in substantial part, as a competing icon library or icon-delivery service. Building your own product with GeoIcons is always fine, even if that product competes with us. These restrictions only stop repackaging the icon set itself for others. --- ## 8. Attribution (Optional but Appreciated) Attribution is not required. If you choose to credit GeoIcons, the preferred form is: > "Map icons by [GeoIcons](https://geoicons.io)" --- ## 9. Payment & Taxes - Payments are processed by **Lemon Squeezy**, acting as **Merchant of Record (MoR)**. Lemon Squeezy collects and remits applicable sales tax/VAT and issues the receipt of record. - Annual billing options are recurring charges managed by Lemon Squeezy; the Licensee may cancel renewal at any time, which stops future charges without revoking versions already obtained (see §6). --- ## 10. Warranty Disclaimer The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. The Licensor does not warrant that the Software will be error-free or that its use will be uninterrupted. Geographic shapes and borders are provided for illustrative purposes and do not represent any position on disputed territories or sovereignty. --- ## 11. Limitation of Liability To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the Licensor be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to this agreement or the use of the Software, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The Licensor's total aggregate liability under this agreement shall not exceed the amount paid by the Licensee for the applicable license in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. --- ## 12. Termination This license terminates automatically if the Licensee: - Breaches any term of this agreement. - Is found to have used this license to cover a scope beyond the purchased tier. Upon termination, the Licensee must cease all use and distribution of GeoIcons in new deployments (existing deployed applications may continue operating under a reasonable wind-down period of 90 days). --- ## 13. Governing Law This agreement is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Licensor is incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. --- ## 14. Changes to These Terms The Licensor may update this agreement from time to time. The version that applies to a given purchase is the version in effect on that purchase's Effective Date. Updated terms apply to subsequent purchases and to the relationship going forward, but do not retroactively revoke the permanent rights already granted for a completed purchase (§4, §6). The current version is always published at https://geoicons.io. --- ## 15.
