  Usage is now read from `GET /api/v1/key` first, which is authoritative for the
  credential in use. `GET /api/v1/credits` is documented as requiring a management
  key, so it becomes best-effort enrichment: when it fails (typically `403` for an
  ordinary inference key) the key data is kept and the wallet is reported as
  unavailable instead of falling back to an older reading.

  - **sub-shared**: `UsageSnapshot` gains `keyLimit` / `keyRemaining` / `keyUsage`
    for the credential in use and `creditUnavailable` for an unreadable wallet.
    The existing `creditTotal` / `creditUsage` / `creditRemaining` stay
    account-level and are never overloaded with key data.
  - **sub-core**: a `Key limit` window is produced only for a real numeric cap; a
    zero cap counts as fully used, and an uncapped (`limit: null`) or unknown cap
    produces no percentage. `limit_remaining` is used as-is rather than derived
    from all-time usage, and `limit_reset` is ignored because it is a period name,
    not a date. A zero-total wallet now reads as fully used instead of 0% used,
    missing amounts stay unknown instead of becoming zero, and negative or
    non-numeric values are rejected. Both requests are `GET` to fixed hosts with
    `redirect: "error"` under one timeout that stays armed through JSON parsing;
    failures report static messages only. `OPENROUTER_KEY` is no longer shadowed
    by a blank `OPENROUTER_API_KEY`, and an auth value that would need a command to
    resolve is not treated as a credential. Snapshots that carry amounts but no
    window are no longer discarded as empty.
  - **sub-bar**: key data renders as `Key spend: $…` and `Key cap: $…` /
    `Key cap: none`, separately from `Account credit: $… left` /
    `Account credit: unavailable`. New `Show Key Limit Window` and
    `Show Key Spend` toggles (both on by default) cover the key lines; the
    existing credit toggles keep their defaults and now affect only account data.
    Window-less snapshots render their extras instead of showing just the provider
    name.

  Resolving a specific account out of a multi-account auth file is a separate
  concern and is not addressed here.

  The bar can now show the SuperGrok/Grok **subscription** quota for the base `xai` OAuth
  credential in `~/.pi/agent/auth.json` (or the `XAI_OAUTH_TOKEN` override) as a single
  `Week`/`Month`/`Usage` window with its reset time, plus sub-bar window toggles.

  Limitations, on purpose:

  - The billing endpoint is unofficial and undocumented, so it can change or break without
    notice. Failures soft-error with a static message plus HTTP status; response bodies are
    never surfaced.
  - Only quota percentage and reset are parsed. Prepaid balance, on-demand spend, credit/unit
    counts and plan names are not shown, and a missing percentage is reported as an error
    instead of being displayed as 0%.
  - xAI API keys (`XAI_API_KEY`, `api_key` auth entries) are never used: they are valid for the
    developer API, which is a different billing bucket that cannot report subscription quota.
  - Only the base `xai` account is supported. Numbered aliases (`xai-2`, …) resolve to no
    provider instead of showing the base account's usage.

  healthy. Unparseable lock files are now age-checked via file mtime and reclaimed past the stale
  window.

  - Event handler renames to match the new event contract: `session_switch` → `session_before_switch`, `session_branch` → `session_before_fork`. Both handlers reset the usage cache and re-fetch, so behavior is preserved.

  `refreshStatus`. The forced refresh bypassed the cache TTL, so an active
  session would hit the upstream `/usage` endpoint on every turn, regardless
  of how recently the cache had been refreshed.

  When the upstream endpoint started rate-limiting (anthropic OAuth
  `/usage` returns 429s under load, especially with multiple `pi`
  instances sharing a session), `fetchWithCache` saw `usage.error`, set
  `shouldCache = false`, and never updated `fetchedAt`. Subsequent
  `turn_end`s kept retrying the rate-limited endpoint and discarding the
  results, so the cache stayed stuck on the last good entry — eventually
  older than the 60s TTL — and `sub-core:update-all` started filtering
  the current provider out of `entries`. UI clients then saw the current
  provider missing and cleared their displays.

  Removing `force: true` lets the existing `behavior.refreshInterval`
  (default 60s) and `behavior.minRefreshInterval` (default 10s) gates do
  their job: turns that arrive faster than the configured TTL reuse the
  cache instead of re-hammering the API. `model_select` keeps `force: true`
  because switching providers always needs fresh data.
