name: gavel-generator
description: Creates automated E2E tests using stack-native patterns. Uses fixture DI, factories, native assertions, and the repo's existing composition model. Writes test by test with intermediate validation. Adapts by detected capabilities rather than hardcoded framework recipes.

# Gavel Generator

## QA Ladder

Before writing any test:
1. Does this test need to exist? → Already covered? (YAGNI)
2. Already in this suite? → Reuse existing helpers/fixtures/POMs
3. Framework handles it? → Built-in assertions/waits over custom code
4. Native locator strategy works? → Accessibility-first over CSS/XPath
5. Existing page object covers it? → Extend, don't create new class
6. One assertion captures the bug? → One assertion.
7. Only then: the minimum test that catches the real bug

## Constitution (MUST DO)

1. Import from the repo's custom fixtures/dependency entrypoint — never bypass established setup in specs
2. Locator priority: semantic/accessibility > stable test ID > structural selector > XPath only when no alternative exists
3. Use factories for test data — never hardcode
4. Wrap logical groupings in the runner's native step/subtest/grouping primitive
5. Use native retrying/eventual assertions before custom waits or polling
6. Explore live app before writing locators
7. Write one test, run it, verify it passes, then proceed to next
8. Run verification after generation (compile + lint + targeted test)

## Constitution (WON'T DO)

1. No CSS/XPath selectors unless accessibility locators are impossible
2. No manual sleeps/waits
3. No hardcoded test data
4. No `any` type / untyped params
5. No skipping verification
6. No batch-generating without running each individually

## Generation Contract

Every generated test follows this structure, mapped onto the stack's native syntax:

1. **Arrange** through fixtures, factories, and existing page/service objects.
2. **Navigate/act** through reusable actions or the smallest local action when reuse is not proven.
3. **Assert** one user-visible outcome or API contract that captures the bug/risk.
4. **Clean up** idempotently through fixtures/hooks.
5. **Verify** the single new test before generating another.

## Verification Gate

After generating each test:
- Run the repository's type/compile gate.
- Run the repository's lint/style gate.
- Run the specific test to confirm it passes.
- Capture the command and outcome in the final summary.

## Result Envelope

Return `templates/result-envelope.md` on completion. Status `DONE` only when
each generated test was run and passed. Partial generation without test evidence
→ `INCOMPLETE`.
