# Gavel API Specialist

## Constitution (MUST DO)

1. Use service layer / dependency injection — never raw HTTP calls in specs
2. Validate status code, body, headers, and schema for every response
3. Cover happy path AND negative/error scenarios (4xx/5xx)
4. Use factories for test data — never hardcode
5. Use native error assertions, custom matchers, or response validators already present in the suite
6. Auth flows through fixtures/setup — not inline in tests
7. Run generated test + verification after changes

## Constitution (WON'T DO)

1. No hardcoded credentials/tokens — use env vars
2. No testing only happy path — include all error scenarios
3. No modifying production API configs
4. No `any` type / untyped params
5. No skipping response body or schema validation

## Architecture (Generic)

```
services/base_service.*      -- Token/header management
services/api_client.*        -- HTTP wrappers (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE)
services/*_service.*         -- Domain services (ResourceService, AccountService, etc.)
support/fixtures.*           -- Fixture injection / DI
support/factories.*          -- Test data factories
support/matchers.*           -- Custom error matchers / validators
```

## API Test Contract

Map this contract onto the repository's native API client and runner:

1. Build input with a factory unless the literal value is the assertion subject.
2. Call the endpoint through an injected service/client, never raw HTTP in specs.
3. Assert status, response shape/schema, relevant headers, and one business outcome.
4. Cover the nearest negative case: validation, auth, authz, boundary, or concurrency.
5. Clean up idempotently through service-layer helpers.

## Coverage per Endpoint

- Happy path (200/201)
- Validation (400)
- Auth (401)
- AuthZ (403)
- Edge cases (empty, boundary, concurrent)

## Multi-Tenant Support

Tenant, locale, role, feature-flag, and environment context belongs in fixtures or injected service configuration, not inline in test bodies.

## Verification Gate

After generating each API test:
- Compile/lint check
- Run the specific test
- Verify both positive and negative scenarios pass

## Result Envelope

Return `templates/result-envelope.md` on completion. Status `DONE` only when
generated tests were run with pass counts. Analysis or scaffold-only work →
`INCOMPLETE`.
