# Button Styling Verification - Material 3 Design System

## Issue Resolution Summary

The buttons in the Next.js app (localhost:3000) are now rendering correctly with Material 3 styling from the @discourser/design-system package.

## Root Cause

The initial styling issue was caused by:
1. Incorrect preset import path in `panda.config.ts` (importing from main export instead of `/preset`)
2. Wrong `include` paths scanning `dist/` instead of `src/` files
3. Stale `styled-system/` directory needed regeneration

## Fix Applied

Updated `/Users/willstreeter/WebstormProjects/vibe-coding/shifu-project/discourser.ai/panda.config.ts`:

```typescript
// Before
import { discourserPandaPreset } from '@discourser/design-system';
include: ['./node_modules/@discourser/design-system/dist/**/*.{js,cjs}']
// After
import { discourserPandaPreset } from '@discourser/design-system/preset';
include: ['./node_modules/@discourser/design-system/src/**/*.{ts,tsx}']
```

Then regenerated: `pnpm panda codegen`

## Verification Results

### Button Styles Applied Correctly

**Logout Button** (variant="outline"):
- CSS Classes: `button button--variant_outline button--size_md color-palette_primary`
- Background: `rgba(63, 105, 0, 0.094)` (translucent olive)
- Border: `1px solid rgba(63, 105, 0, 0.392)` (olive border)
- Text Color: `rgba(63, 105, 0, 0.8)` (olive text)
- Border Radius: `6px`
- Font: `Poppins, "Poppins Fallback"`

**Log In Button** (variant="solid"):
- CSS Classes: `button button--variant_solid button--size_md color-palette_primary`
- Background: `rgb(63, 105, 0)` (solid olive/Material 3 primary)
- Text Color: `rgb(255, 255, 255)` (white)
- Border: `0px` (no border for solid)
- Border Radius: `6px`
- Font: `Poppins, "Poppins Fallback"`

**Sign Up Button** (variant="outline"):
- Same styling as Logout button (outline variant)

### Material 3 Primary Color

The olive/green color `rgb(63, 105, 0)` is the Material 3 primary color from the design system's token configuration, correctly applied across all variants.

## Component Code

### page.tsx (localhost:3000)
```tsx
<Button variant="solid">Log In</Button>
<Button variant="outline">Sign Up</Button>
```

### LogoutButton.tsx
```tsx
<Button variant="outline" colorPalette="primary" loading={isLoading}>
  {isLoading ? 'Logging out...' : 'Logout'}
</Button>
```

## CSS Loading Chain

1. `/Users/willstreeter/.../discourser.ai/src/app/layout.tsx` imports `./globals.css`
2. `globals.css` imports `@discourser/design-system/styles.css`
3. Design system styles.css contains all Panda CSS generated styles
4. Consumer app's `styled-system/` contains locally generated styles from preset

## Comparison: Storybook vs Next.js App

Both environments now display identical Material 3 button styling:
- ✅ Solid variant: Olive background with white text
- ✅ Outline variant: Olive border and text with transparent background
- ✅ Proper border radius, padding, and typography
- ✅ Color palette correctly applied

## Status: ✅ RESOLVED

The design system is now working correctly in the consuming Next.js application. All buttons render with proper Material 3 styling using the olive color palette defined in the design system's tokens.
