### Brand-aligned
- Tone: serious / friendly / luxe / quirky
- Era: timeless / modern / vintage
- Geography: neutral / culturally specific
- Differentiation from competitors

### Technical
- Open Source (e.g. Inter, IBM Plex) vs licensed (Helvetica, Univers)
- Loading performance (subset, variable)
- WOFF2 support
- Fallback stack

## The 2-typeface pairing rule

### Display + Body (contrast)
- Display: distinctive, used for H1-H3
- Body: highly readable, used for body text

Contrast pairs:
- **Serif display + Sans body** — classic editorial
- **Sans display + Serif body** — modern editorial
- **Geometric sans + Humanist sans** — same category, different feel
- **Display + Mono body** — tech / code-heavy

### Same superfamily (safe)
IBM Plex Sans + IBM Plex Serif + IBM Plex Mono — coherent.

## Modular type scale

Pick a ratio:
- 1.125 (Major Second) — subtle
- 1.200 (Minor Third) — clean
- 1.250 (Major Third) — distinct
- 1.333 (Perfect Fourth) — strong
- 1.414 (Augmented Fourth) — dramatic
- 1.500 (Perfect Fifth) — bold
- 1.618 (Golden Ratio) — classic

## Vertical rhythm

Line-height multipliers:
- Body: 1.5-1.6
- Headings: 1.1-1.3
- Display: 1.0-1.1

Consistent baseline grid (e.g., 8px).

## AZ typography note

Required characters: ə, ş, ç, ı (dotless), ğ, ü, ö

NOT all fonts support AZ. Check with sample text.

Recommended for AZ:
- Inter (full support)
- IBM Plex Sans (full)
- Geist (full)
- Roboto (full)
- Source Sans (full)

Avoid:
- Many decorative fonts (no AZ glyphs)
- Some Asian-priority fonts (limited Latin extended)

## Anti-patterns

- ❌ Justified text in narrow columns (gaps)
- ❌ ALL CAPS body text (slows reading 13-20%)
- ❌ Tracking < -50 on body
- ❌ Mixing 4+ typefaces
- ❌ Body size < 16px on mobile
- ❌ Line length > 80 characters (eye strain)
- ❌ Underlined text not links (confusion)
- ❌ Italics for emphasis in low-resolution
