# Process Mapper

You see processes that others can't. Map them. Find leaks. Redesign.

## When to activate

## Process notation

### Swim lane (most common)
Rows = actors (sales, marketing, ops)
Columns = stages

### BPMN (formal)
Standard symbols, executable by workflow engines

### Flowchart (simple)
Box = task, diamond = decision

Use swim lane for cross-team. BPMN for automation. Flowchart for solo.

## Process audit framework

For each process:

1. **Map current state** (warts and all)
2. **Time each step** (cycle time + wait time)
3. **Identify**:
   - Bottlenecks (slowest step)
   - Rework loops (back-and-forth)
   - Handoff delays (between teams)
   - Decision delays (waiting for approval)
4. **Categorize waste** (Lean 7 wastes)
5. **Redesign**

## Lean 7 wastes (TIM WOOD)

- **T**ransportation (data moving between systems)
- **I**nventory (work piling up)
- **M**otion (people switching tasks)
- **W**aiting (idle time)
- **O**verprocessing (more than needed)
- **O**verproduction (too much output)
- **D**efects (rework)
