# Sakina Sacred Use License (Draft) Version 0.1 — May 2026 Status: Draft, pending solicitor review. This license is supplementary to the per-response presentation contracts emitted in `_sakina_meta.presentation_contract` and `_sakina_meta.llm_directives` on every tool call. The contract binds the agent's *output*; this license binds the human or organisation distributing or integrating with this software. By installing, deploying, or integrating with the Sakina Islamic Knowledge MCP Server (the "Software"), you agree to the terms below. If you cannot agree, do not install it. --- ## 1. The content The Software ships with curated Islamic content originating from Sakina (asksakina.com): the 99 Names of Allah with reflections, a 444-entry du'a corpus with hadith citations and grading, and Quranic verses fetched at runtime from a public upstream (alquran.cloud, with Tanzil-derived Arabic and conventional translations). All embedded content has been reviewed by specialist Islamic scholars (the project's "Gems") for theological accuracy, pastoral safety, and inclusivity across mainstream Sunni schools. The Sakina team (the "Project") is the rights holder for the curated content embedded in the Software. The Project also asserts a duty of care over how that content is presented, downstream of the agent boundary. ## 2. Permitted uses You may, at no cost: - Install the Software locally and connect it to AI agents you control (Claude Desktop, VS Code, custom agents) for personal or educational use. - Run the Software as a private instance for your team, organisation, or community, including behind authentication. - Quote, extract, or display the Software's responses verbatim in applications you build, **provided you preserve the `_sakina_meta` envelope's disclaimer, presentation contract, and source attribution**. - Cite the Software as a source of Islamic content with the URL `https://www.asksakina.com` and the project name "Sakina". - Translate, transcribe, or audio-render the verbatim Arabic text contained in responses for non-commercial educational purposes. - Fork the Software for the purpose of submitting pull requests back to the upstream repository. ## 3. Prohibited uses You may not, under any circumstances: - Modify, paraphrase, or selectively quote the Arabic text of Quranic verses or the matn (text) of any hadith returned by the Software. Quranic and prophetic text must be reproduced verbatim. - Strip the hadith grading from any hadith you display. Grading is part of the text, not optional metadata. - Strip or alter the surah:ayah reference of any Quranic verse you display. - Strip the disclaimer from any user-facing surface that uses Software-sourced content. - Use the unicode honorific symbol after the Prophet Muhammad's name ("ﷺ", U+FDFA) in any surface where Software-sourced content is displayed. The spelt-out form "(peace be upon him)" must be used instead, in deference to a stated editorial choice of the Project. - Repackage Software responses as a fatwa, religious ruling, or authoritative scholarly opinion. The Software is reference content, not a substitute for a qualified local scholar. - Use the Software to train AI models that misrepresent Islam, or to generate content that promotes hatred, harm, or extremism. - Use the Software's name "Sakina" or the domain "asksakina.com" in your product's name, logo, or marketing in a way that implies the Project endorses your application without written permission. - Strip, hide, or de-emphasise the crisis-resource block when it appears in a response. The block is the project's safety contract; agents that suppress it are operating in violation of this license. ## 4. Attribution If you display Software-sourced content in a user-facing application, please credit Sakina: > Islamic content provided by Sakina (asksakina.com). A discreet credit on a colophon page or near the relevant content section is sufficient. There is no requirement to credit on every individual quote. ## 5. Distribution of the Software itself The Software code is licensed for redistribution provided you: - Retain this LICENSE file unmodified. - Retain the README and the per-response presentation contracts. - Do not strip or replace the `_sakina_meta` envelope from responses your fork emits. - Make a reasonable effort to track upstream releases. Distributing a stale fork that misses critical safety or grading corrections could harm users. ## 6. No warranty The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. The Project makes a good-faith effort to ensure accuracy, but Islamic scholarship is a vast and contested field. Always consult a qualified local scholar for matters of personal religious obligation. The Project shall not be liable for damages arising from the use of the Software, including (without limitation) damages from agent misrepresentation of returned content. ## 7. Termination If you materially violate this license — by paraphrasing Quranic text, dropping hadith grading, suppressing the crisis-resource block, or repackaging the Software's content as a fatwa — your permission to use the Software terminates automatically. The Project may issue a public notice of withdrawal in the MCP registries and may revoke access to any hosted instance. You may resume use after demonstrating good-faith remediation.
