/**
 * Shows a controlled value without writing it into the markup.
 *
 * React copies a controlled `value` into the `value` attribute (into the
 * text of a `<textarea>`), where a copied outerHTML or a session replay can
 * read it. A field that renders its element without `value` and calls this
 * instead still behaves as a controlled one: after every render the
 * element's value property is set to `value` when it differs. Nothing is
 * written while `value` is undefined (the text is then the user's), nor
 * while `pausedRef` is true (mid IME composition, before the host has been
 * told of the edit).
 *
 * Call the returned `sync` after handling each change. A refused edit does
 * not re-render the field, so without it the refused text would stay.
