# Versioning and stability

Agent-Native packages are pre-1.0. The release process provides nightly
snapshots, stable package releases, migration tooling, and doctor checks. It
does not make an alpha or beta deployment a production support guarantee.

## Release channels

Every three hours, a scheduled run publishes a nightly snapshot of `main`
under the npm `nightly` dist-tag if package source changed since the previous
nightly. Nightly publication does not move the `latest` tag. Use nightly to test the
current framework before a stable release.

Stable releases are coordinated through Changesets and the release workflow.
The workflow accepts patch, minor, or major release types. Scheduled runs
prepare patch releases Monday through Thursday at noon Pacific time. A release
is not guaranteed on every scheduled run. The workflow and package publish
checks must complete successfully.

## Pre-1.0 compatibility policy

Before 1.0, patch releases are intended for bug fixes and compatible
improvements. Minor releases may add capabilities and may change behavior or
APIs that are still in alpha or beta. A major release is reserved for a broad
breaking change. Review the release notes and migration instructions before
upgrading, especially when a minor release changes a surface your app uses.

When a framework package moves an import or renames an export, its
`migration-manifest.json` records the supported migration. Run the codemod in
dry-run mode, inspect the diff, then apply it:

```bash
npx @agent-native/core@latest upgrade --codemods
npx @agent-native/core@latest upgrade --codemods --yes
agent-native doctor --only migration-manifest
```

Removed paths can remain as tombstone modules that explain the replacement and
the migration command. There is no fixed tombstone retention period. Do not
assume an old import remains available indefinitely.

## Templates and exact pins

The create CLI pins the scaffolded `@agent-native/core` dependency to the
exact version that supplied the template. This keeps the generated code and
framework package aligned. Upgrade deliberately with the migration tools
rather than changing that pin to `latest` by hand.

## Alpha and beta expectations

Alpha and beta are release stages, not service-level commitments. The current
targets are beta by mid-October 2026 and 1.0 by the end of 2026. These dates
are goals only. They can change as validation and release work progresses.
Report a reproducible issue with the package version,
database provider, and migration output so it can be diagnosed against the
right release.

[Administered Deployments](/docs/administered-deployments).
