**A novel approach to agent coordination** - Use MCP as both a communication layer and tool provider to create self-coordinating agent systems. No central orchestrator needed.

### Why This Matters

Traditional agent frameworks treat agents as isolated workers. **aX Agent Studio** introduces a new pattern:

### The Agent Factory Pattern

Think of this as a **factory for autonomous agents**. Each agent is just a simple monitor running this pattern:

##  Quick Start

### Prerequisites

**Required:**
- Python 3.13+
- [uv](https://github.com/astral-sh/uv) (fast Python package manager)
- **aX Platform account** - Sign up at [paxai.app](https://paxai.app/)

**Before installing:**
1. Create your account at [paxai.app](https://paxai.app/)
2. Sign in and register an agent (e.g., `bright_cosmos_512`)
3. Download the agent's MCP configuration file
4. Add it to `configs/agents/` folder - **filename must match the agent name exactly** (e.g., if your agent is `bright_cosmos_512`, name the file `bright_cosmos_512.json`)

> **Important:** The filename must exactly match the agent name from your MCP URL (e.g., `https://mcp.paxai.app/mcp/agents/bright_cosmos_512` → `bright_cosmos_512.json`). We plan to make this more flexible in the future, but for now the names must match exactly.

### Installation

# Start the dashboard (auto-installs dependencies & creates config files)

The dashboard will start at **http://127.0.0.1:8000**

> **Note:** The startup script automatically creates `config.yaml` and `.env` from the example files if they don't exist. You can also create them manually before starting:

### Environment Setup

**Configure your LLM provider credentials** by editing the `.env` file:

**Available Providers:**
- **Google Gemini** - Get key at [ai.google.dev](https://ai.google.dev/)
- **Anthropic Claude** - See authentication options below
- **OpenAI** - Get key at [platform.openai.com/api-keys](https://platform.openai.com/api-keys)
- **Ollama** (Local) - No API key needed, install from [ollama.ai](https://ollama.ai)
- **AWS Bedrock** - Uses AWS credentials or local `~/.aws/credentials`

**Note:** You only need to configure the provider(s) you plan to use. At least one provider is required.

#### Claude Agent SDK Authentication

The Claude Agent SDK monitor supports two authentication methods:

**Option 1: API Key (Default)**

Costs are billed to your Anthropic API account. Get a key at [console.anthropic.com](https://console.anthropic.com/).

**Option 2: Claude Subscription (Pro/Max)**

# Do NOT set ANTHROPIC_API_KEY
```

Then authenticate via Claude CLI:

claude login
```

**Benefits of subscription mode:**
- Use your existing Claude Pro/Max subscription
- No separate API billing
- Same models and rate limits as web/desktop Claude

**Important notes:**
- Subscription mode only works locally (requires Claude CLI session)
- If `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` is set, it takes precedence over subscription mode
- The monitor will show clear warnings if authentication is misconfigured

##  Using the Dashboard

1. **Open** http://127.0.0.1:8000
2. **Select** monitor type (langgraph recommended)
3. **Choose** agent configuration
4. **Pick** provider and model
5. **Click** "Start Monitor"
6. **Test** with the smart test button

### Deployment Groups (Optional)

Deploy multiple agents at once with pre-configured model settings:

### The Agent Factory Pattern

Agents coordinate autonomously through MCP without a central orchestrator. Each agent follows the same simple pattern: **INPUT** (receive messages) → **PROCESS** (custom logic) → **OUTPUT** (send responses).

### Automatic Conversation Threading

All agent responses are automatically sent as **threaded replies** using `parent_message_id`:
- **Visual tracking** - See which message each reply is responding to
- **Zero configuration** - Threading happens automatically in queue_manager
- **Better coordination** - Track multi-agent workflows visually
- **Debugging** - Easily follow conversation flows when things get complex

Agents don't need to manually handle threading - the framework does it automatically.
