## 🔧 Prerequisites

- Windows 10/11 with WSL2 enabled
- Ubuntu installed in WSL2
- Git installed in WSL2
- Node.js 18+ (will be installed if missing)
- Python 3.8+ (will be installed if missing)

## 📦 Installation

### Automated Installation (Recommended)

1. **Clone this repository in WSL2 Ubuntu**:
   ```bash
   git clone https://github.com/yourusername/claude-code-complete-setup.git
   cd claude-code-complete-setup
   ```

2. **Set up environment variables** (optional):
   ```bash
   cp .env.example .env
   # Edit .env with your API keys (or use Doppler)
   ```

3. **Run the setup script**:
   ```bash
   chmod +x setup.sh
   ./setup.sh
   ```

The script will:
- Install all dependencies
- Set up Claude Code CLI
- Configure all MCP servers
- Copy global memory system
- Set up git hooks and security
- Configure your IDE (Cursor/VS Code/Windsurf)

### Manual Installation

If you prefer manual control, see [MANUAL_SETUP.md](./docs/MANUAL_SETUP.md).

## 🔑 Environment Variables

The setup supports three methods for managing secrets:

1. **Doppler (Recommended)**: Automatic secret management
2. **Environment File**: Create `.env` from `.env.example`
3. **System Environment**: Export variables in your shell

Required variables:
- `GITHUB_TOKEN` - For GitHub MCP server
- `PERPLEXITY_API_KEY` - For Perplexity search (optional)
- Additional API keys for specific MCP servers you want to use

## 🎯 Post-Installation

### Verify Installation
```bash
# Check Claude Code
claude --version
# List MCP servers
claude mcp list
# Test a simple command
claude "Hello, test my setup"
```

### IDE Integration

#### Cursor
- Settings will be automatically configured
- Restart Cursor after installation

#### VS Code
- Install Claude Code extension
- Configuration will be auto-detected

#### Windsurf
- Follow IDE-specific setup in docs/

## 🛡️ Security Features

- **Branch Protection**: Prevents direct commits to main
- **Git Hooks**: Pre-commit and pre-push validation
- **Secure Defaults**: Proper file permissions (600)
- **No Hardcoded Secrets**: Uses environment variables
- **Audit Logging**: Tracks all operations

## 🚨 Important Notes

1. **Main Branch Protection**: The system enforces strict branch protection. You cannot commit directly to main.
2. **Parallel Processing**: The system uses parallel agents for 6x performance improvement.
3. **Autonomous Operation**: Designed for zero manual intervention.

## 🔄 Updating

To update your installation:
```bash
cd claude-code-complete-setup
git pull
./update.sh
```

## 🐛 Troubleshooting

### Common Issues

1. **Permission Denied**
   ```bash
   chmod +x setup.sh
   sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~/.claude ~/.config/claude-code ~/claude_global_memory
   ```

2. **MCP Server Not Found**
   ```bash
   # Restart Claude Code
   claude restart
   ```

3. **Doppler Authentication**
   - WSL2 has keyring limitations
   - Use environment variables as fallback

See [TROUBLESHOOTING.md](./docs/TROUBLESHOOTING.md) for more solutions.
